about
I decided to rope in a fellow band member, Sam Hemsworth, for this track. We hadn't written anything together I have been very much following his lead on the band material. He has a way of creating very interesting music, the clever key switching done at the end is an example of the stuff he does that I struggle to keep up with.
I, on the other hand, just went really poptastic.
We talked about it and the idea came up as the library being a place to escape but being preventing from doing so in some form or other. We tried to incorporate what we could see in the photo e.g. lions got a mention. Some of the recording was done with a window purposefully left open to try and get the hustle and bustle of the busy Sheffield streets in.
This was the result, I'm sure there is more that can be done with it but it was fun working with Sam and I'm glad something managed to come out of it, it was very touch and go.
lyrics
there’s a closing sign
outside our library
it read’s come back tomorrow
at a quarter to three
there’s a closing sign
that feels directed at me
it read’s come back in the morning
when I arrived at a quarter to three
and I’m right back where I started
I’m right back where I belong
two ferocious lions
outside our library
still as stone in the morning
baring their teeth at me
two ferocious lions
poised and silent sentries
I take chance and move forward
silence, soft like a breeze
and I’m right back where I started
I’m right back where I belong
where I'm not quite sure where I fit in
but I'm sure there's story to spin
No I'm not quite sure where I fit in
but I'm sure there's and answer
and a fitting ending
For now, I'm caught in the middle
For now, I'll stay right here
For now, I'm caught in the middle
For now, I'll stay where I belong
